Position Summary:
|
EMT Intermediate is required for this position.
Assist in the nursing care of patients in the Emergency Center. Provides wound care and splints as required. Provide a safe, clean environment and stocks patient care areas. Ensures adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Accountability:
|
PATIENT CARE - Clean patient care rooms, equipment and instruments; report equipment problems; order and store supplies; maintain appropriate PAR levels
PATIENT CARE - Assist nursing staff/physicians in complicated treatment procedures; perform routine treatment procedures
PATIENT CARE - Identify and assess clinical situations beyond their scope and promptly notifies a nurse and/or physician
PATIENT CARE - Provide oxygen therapy, I.V. setup, catheterization, gastric lavage, suctioning; apply cardiac monitor and basic assessments under the supervision of RN or attending physician as requested
TRANSPORT - Transport patients, collect, label and transport specimens, equipment, supplies, charts and materials to include arterial blood gas specimens
TRANSPORT - Transport patients to other units or to in-patient testing areas
RECORDS AND SUPPORT - Maintain record keeping and filing system; make photocopies; run errands; perform other support duties as assigned
PERFORM - Perform dispatch duties as required
PATIENT CARE - Provide direct clinical services to patients including screening and identification, rehabilitative, and counseling services as directed
EQUIPMENT - Assist with the provision of administrative support in regards to equipment maintenance, calibration and statistical data compilation
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
CUSTOMER/STAFF RELATIONS - Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and Hospital employees
ASSIST - Assist the nurse in the management of observation unit patients
WOUND CARE - Complete wound care process according to medical protocol under the direct supervision of RN or physician
DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
|
Experience Requirements:

1 year directly related experience
|
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
|
Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate
CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position
|
Experience Requirements - Preferred:
|
Bilingual English/Spanish
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
1 year directly related experience

Physical Demands Requirements:
|
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Testing Requirements:
|
Tuberculin Skin Test required annually

Working Conditions Requirements:

Sig Hazard: Chemicals, bio hazardous materials requiring extensive safety precautions and may require protective equipment
